Toolkits for Success - managing off-campus learning for students with disabilities

After Your Work Experience

Reviewing Your Work Experience

After completing your placement, make sure you don't forget what you've learnt. Ideally, you should have a meeting with your line manager to review your placement - what have you both learnt, what went well/ badly, etc.

Spend time reflecting on your experience to identify key learning points and achievements. What have you learnt that will help you in future?

See our on-line review tool.

Keeping In Touch With Your Host Organisation

This is always worthwhile. You could write to thank them for their support. If you are keen to work for this organisation after you graduate, tell them this - they may be able to let you know about suitable jobs.

Keeping in touch with your line manager can ensure they remember you if future jobs arise. It is also gratifying and interesting for them to find out your progress.

Before you leave, find out if they'd be happy to provide you with a reference for future applications.

Returning To Academic Study

This can be difficult, particularly after a long period away. You may have to get used to motivating yourself and managing your free time. Try to use what you've learnt from your placement and think about how your studies will be used in future work.
